Numerical transformation of vocational training in Chad takes shape

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Vocational Training organized a national workshop in N’Djamena on Thursday, July 10, 2026, to validate an in-depth diagnostic report on the state of digital readiness in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The event brought together key sector stakeholders to review, refine, and endorse a foundational document that will guide Chad’s future digital transformation strategy for TVET.

a collaborative assessment to modernize Chad’s vocational education

This initiative is part of the Pan-African TVET Digital Transformation Initiative, supported by UNESCO, OIF, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program. Its goal is to sustainably modernize Chad’s technical and vocational education systems.

The preliminary study engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Training Centers (CFTP) across all academic districts, combining on-site assessments with digital data collection. The findings highlight both progress and critical gaps in governance, digital infrastructure, connectivity, energy supply, instructor training, and the integration of digital skills into curricula.

Opening the workshop on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Dr Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics and Digitalization, underscored that digital transformation is now a strategic imperative. He emphasized the government’s commitment to positioning digital tools as a catalyst for modernizing Chad’s TVET sector.

According to his remarks, the diagnostic report identifies significant achievements but also reveals major challenges that must be addressed to ensure a robust, inclusive, and nationally relevant strategy. Participants were encouraged to refine the document to ensure the final strategy is both practical and aligned with Chad’s socio-economic realities.

roadmap to a digital-ready tvet system by 2030

Following the validation, the endorsed report will serve as the basis for developing Chad’s National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan for 2026–2030. The ultimate aim is to equip Chad with a modern, high-performing vocational training system capable of meeting evolving labor market demands.
