N’Djamena gears up for 2026 music festival to unite communities

N’Djamena is set to host a landmark edition of the Music Festival 2026, themed “Music as a bridge to social cohesion”. Organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Handicrafts, the event aims to bring together diverse communities through inclusive cultural celebrations.

Launching a cultural milestone in the capital

The festival’s kickoff ceremony took place at the iconic Hilton roundabout in N’Djamena, drawing government officials, artists, cultural promoters and enthusiastic citizens. Speaking at the event, Abakar Rozzi Téguil, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Handicrafts, emphasized the transformative power of music in fostering national unity and social harmony.

The theme resonates with the government’s broader vision of strengthening social cohesion, a priority highlighted by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno as a cornerstone of public policy. « Music transcends borders and differences, uniting people through shared rhythm and emotion. This festival embodies our commitment to building a more united Chad, » the minister stated.

A nationwide movement for inclusion

Beyond the capital, the festival will unfold through a series of decentralized musical tours across all ten districts of N’Djamena and multiple provinces. This initiative is designed to make cultural events more accessible, ensuring performances reach neighborhoods, public squares, villages and rural areas alike.

« Our goal is clear: to democratize access to the arts and use music as a tool for dialogue, peace and collective healing. The stage isn’t confined to concert halls—it belongs in the heart of every community, » Téguil added.

Celebrating talent and fostering development

The festival will feature a rich program of performances by local artists, showcasing the nation’s diverse musical traditions. Organizers view this as more than a cultural event—it’s an economic catalyst, empowering young talent and boosting the creative industries that drive innovation and prosperity in Chad.

The celebrations underscore how art can serve as a unifying force, reinforcing national identity while inspiring hope and resilience in the face of global challenges.
