Morocco reaffirms commitment to african integration and development at un meeting

During a high-level meeting in Addis-Abeba, Morocco’s commitment to African integration and continental development took center stage. Mohamed Arrouchi, the Kingdom’s ambassador to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, engaged in discussions with Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the UNECA, to explore avenues for deeper cooperation.

At the heart of their exchanges was a shared vision for strengthening economic and technical partnerships across the continent. The Moroccan delegation highlighted the Kingdom’s ongoing support for the UNECA’s initiatives, including its pivotal role in organizing the 58th session of the Ministerial Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, held in Tangier from March 28 to April 3.

The UNECA’s Executive Secretary praised Morocco’s contributions, particularly its innovative approach to technical and vocational education and training. He emphasized how the Kingdom’s model integrates skill development with emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to meet the demands of industrialization. This system was described as a benchmark for other African nations seeking to align education with economic growth.

With Africa undergoing rapid economic and technological transformations, Mr. Gatete urged the broader adoption of Morocco’s successful practices. He called for increased collaboration to share best practices, strengthen regional cooperation, and accelerate the continent’s economic integration—a goal Morocco has championed since joining the UNECA in 1958.

The meeting underscored the deepening ties between Morocco and the UNECA, reinforcing the Kingdom’s longstanding role as a key partner in Africa’s development journey.
