In an official statement released on the first day of August, King Mohammed VI declared that the country’s most expansive road infrastructure would bear the name of the former American leader. The newly designated Autoroute Donald Trump spans an impressive 1,055 kilometers, connecting Tiznit to Dakhla and solidifying its status as Africa’s longest highway.

The decision was framed as a gesture of gratitude for Trump’s pivotal support. In December 2020, the former US president publicly endorsed Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara—a proposal presented in exchange for the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel. The territory, once a Spanish colony until 1975, remains rich in phosphates and marine resources but is recognized by the United Nations as non-self-governing.
