Morocco Highlights Economic Social Solidarity Experience in Dakar

The Moroccan experience in economic social solidarity (ESS) was highlighted on Tuesday at the opening of the second edition of the African Forum for Economic Social and Solidarity (FORA'ESS Dakar 2026).

During an atelier session on the topic "Citizen Transition and Social Performance: Impact and Measurement", Dr. Khadija Douiri, a researcher at Mohammed Premier University in Oujda, emphasized that ESS is now a top priority for development, not only in Morocco but also across African countries.

The university researcher pointed out that the Moroccan economy social solidarity sector is not an alternative, but rather a viable area to stimulate development, enhance economic actors’ contributions, and increase their participation in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Dr. Douiri also shed light on Morocco’s experience in this domain, highlighting the importance of the country’s cooperative networks that create jobs and wealth, particularly in the Oriental region.

She emphasized the need to continue developing the ESS ecosystem through a collective mobilization of all stakeholders.

The Moroccan delegation at FORA'ESS Dakar 2026 includes Dr. Khadija Douiri, along with other university researchers.

The two-day event has gathered over 250 participants from 33 countries to discuss the role of ESS in driving African transition, inclusion, and convergence.

FORA'ESS Dakar 2026 also features plenary sessions on the Union African’s Decennial Strategy for Economic Social Solidarity, the role of local authorities in developing this sector, and mechanisms for supporting its implementation.
