Morocco-gulf forum pushes youth innovation and green investments
Empowering young entrepreneurs through tailored funding solutions
After three days of intensive discussions in Casablanca, the Morocco-Gulf Forum on youth economic and social empowerment concluded with a strong call to bolster support for young innovators. The focus? Establishing adapted financing mechanisms, particularly in green, blue, and digital sectors. This initiative aims to unlock the potential of Morocco and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations in driving sustainable growth.
A regional platform for sustainable development
The forum, organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication in partnership with the GCC Secretariat General, brought together over a hundred young leaders, experts, institutional officials, and entrepreneurial ecosystem stakeholders. Their collective goal: to explore strategies for empowering youth amid economic, social, and technological transformations.
Ahmed Aboukrim, Chair of the Forum’s Scientific Committee, highlighted the event’s key takeaway: “Youth empowerment is no longer an option but a strategic necessity.” The sessions underscored the need for integrated approaches combining education, employability, entrepreneurship, innovation, and targeted financing to strengthen national competitiveness.
Four key sectors to transform youth potential
The workshops identified four strategic sectors as catalysts for youth economic empowerment:
- Green economy: Sustainable business models to combat climate change.
- Digital transformation and AI: Harnessing technology for economic growth.
- Renewable energies and green hydrogen: Clean energy solutions for a resilient future.
- Blue economy and water resources: Sustainable management of marine and freshwater assets.
Actionable recommendations for impact
The forum’s final recommendations included:
- Creating dedicated funds to finance youth-led projects in green, blue, and digital sectors.
- Expanding joint research and training programs.
- Developing specialized incubators to nurture startups.
- Establishing common metrics to track progress in youth employment, innovation, and sustainability.
The participants emphasized that Morocco and GCC nations possess complementary strengths—resources, expertise, and investment capacity—creating an ideal environment for a regional cooperation model rooted in innovation and sustainable development.
Gulf partners praise Morocco’s leadership
Salma Khalifa Al Ghafli, Head of the UAE delegation, commended Morocco’s exceptional organization and hospitality. She described the forum as a “privileged platform for exchanging best practices and fostering partnerships” in youth empowerment. “Investing in youth is the most powerful investment in a nation’s future,” she affirmed.
The closing ceremony honored delegates from GCC countries and diplomatic missions for their contributions to the forum’s success, celebrating their commitment to strengthening Morocco-GCC cooperation in youth and development.
