Malian army regains control in key conflict zones

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting full operational control across multiple flashpoints where clashes with armed factions have intensified in recent weeks. This development follows coordinated military operations targeting the Front de Libération de l’Azawad (FLA) in northern Mali and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern regions.

In a formal statement, the FAMA confirmed sustained combat engagements on Sunday near Anifif, a strategic location situated 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The area had witnessed a surge in militant activity after reinforcements—both in personnel and equipment—were reportedly deployed to reinforce FLA positions. Responding to this escalation, Malian troops executed a rigorous and disciplined counteroffensive, maintaining pressure throughout the day with unwavering resolve.

He categorically refuted reports of the death of the FLA’s top commander, Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that the leader remained actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
