Mali Redesigns Its Future with Mining, Security and Diplomacy

The Mali is undergoing a unique transformation at its borders with Burkina Faso, driven by a desire for national sovereignty and endogenous development.

The mining sector is spearheading this metamorphosis. Under the slogan « Let Gold Shine for Malians », the country has adopted a new Mining Code allowing the state and domestic investors to hold up to 35% of projects.

These reforms have already enabled the recovery of 760 billion CFA francs. In 2026, this rigorous management will facilitate the redistribution of 18.4 billion CFA francs to 819 municipalities to finance healthcare and education infrastructure.

The country is also diversifying its production with lithium from Goulamina and Bougouni, aiming to become Africa’s leading producer.

Security and logistics are the pillars of stability.

The Malian development relies on the growing strength of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) and their partners. The arrival in Bamako of a massive convoy of over 900 fuel trucks under military escort on July 10, 2026, illustrated the state’s ability to secure its energy supply.

Simultaneously, aerial operations with significant scope have neutralized a hundred terrorists and secured vital logistical axes.

A renewed diplomacy of cooperation is underway.

On the regional scene, Mali is consolidating its relations. The decision to reopen airspace for flights from Algeria and the return of the Malian ambassador to Alger marks a key step in the revitalization of diplomatic cooperation.

Between new mining structures like SOREM and major industrial projects, Mali demonstrates resilience and ambition that confirm progress is also underway in other Sahel countries, including those in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
