Mali military regains ground in key battlegrounds against armed groups

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in the conflict, asserting control over previously contested zones where attacks by the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) had escalated in the northern regions, and where the Support for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated faction, had intensified operations in central and southern Mali.

Military operations intensify with fresh reinforcements

In a formal statement, FAMA detailed renewed clashes that unfolded on Sunday near Anifif, located in the northeastern part of the country, approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The engagement followed the arrival of additional manpower and logistical support dispatched to the Azawad Liberation Front.

Unwavering resolve in the face of adversity

The military communiqué underscored the resilience of Malian troops, stating: « In response to these provocations, our forces have fought relentlessly throughout the day with unwavering discipline and courage, securing key positions against determined opposition. » The statement further reaffirmed « complete confidence in the capacity of the Malian Armed Forces to safeguard national sovereignty, protect civilians, and dismantle enemy operations. »

Rebel claims met with military countermeasures

Meanwhile, a representative for the Azawad Liberation Front, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had previously asserted that his group maintained control over Anfif following the resumption of hostilities. He also refuted reports of the death of the Front’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, insisting that the commander remained actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
