The Malian Armed Forces have declared that they have reclaimed the initiative and restored stability across all zones targeted by attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, operating in central and southern regions.

In a detailed statement, the Malian Armed Forces confirmed that intense fighting resumed on Sunday in Anifif, located in the northeastern part of the country, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The clashes followed the arrival of additional fighters and supplies for the Azawad Liberation Front, prompting a swift and determined response from Malian troops.

Azawad Liberation Front denies leadership losses

In response to reports of casualties, the Azawad Liberation Front’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, dismissed claims regarding the death of its leader, Mbarek Ag Akli. He asserted that the commander remains actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
