Mali army regains ground against armed groups in key regions

Mali’s armed forces have declared a decisive shift in their operations, asserting full control over conflict zones previously targeted by armed factions. This announcement follows a series of intensified military responses in the north and central regions, where the Front de libération de l’Azawad and the Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, had escalated their activities.

In a formal statement, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) confirmed that renewed clashes occurred on Sunday near Anifif, a strategic location in the northeast, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The confrontation unfolded shortly after reinforcements arrived to bolster the Front de libération de l’Azawad’s positions.

The military report highlighted the disciplined and unwavering response of FAMA units, emphasizing their commitment to restoring stability. It stated: « Despite external pressures, our troops maintained their offensive posture throughout the day, demonstrating both courage and tactical precision. »
