Gabon strengthens ties with Madagascar at independence celebrations

The Vice-President of the Gabonese Government (VPG), Hermann Immongault, represented President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema during Madagascar’s 66th Independence Day festivities in Antananarivo on June 26. As part of the official delegation, he attended the military parade at Mahamasina Stadium, celebrating the armed forces’ commitment to patriotism and modernization. The event’s theme, “reform for development”, underscored the significance of structural progress in the country.

The Gabonese representative’s presence highlighted the strong bond between the Gabonese and Malagasy peoples. It also demonstrated the shared ambition of Libreville and Antananarivo to deepen bilateral cooperation. This aligns with the recent visit by Madagascar’s Transition President, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, to Libreville from June 5 to 7, where he held key discussions with his Gabonese counterpart. During their meeting at the Palais du Bord de mer, he expressed admiration for Gabon’s transition process and its achievements.

The deployment of the VPG to Madagascar’s celebrations sends a clear message: Gabon views its partnership with the Great Island as a strategic priority. Enhanced high-level exchanges between the two nations signal the dawn of a new era in political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic collaboration.
