Gabon and Madagascar deepen bilateral ties in Libreville talks
The Colonel Michaël Randrianirina arrived in Libreville last Friday to hold discussions with President Oligui Nguema.
The visit, part of a 48-hour working and friendship trip, underscored the ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic and cooperative relations between Gabon and Madagascar.
During the engagements, the Malagasy delegation was granted an audience at the Palais Rénovation, where President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema received his counterpart. The talks centered on deepening bilateral cooperation and exploring ways to support Madagascar’s ongoing institutional refoundation process.
As part of the visit, a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault highlighted key milestones in Gabon’s transition and the guiding principles behind its return to constitutional order. President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed Gabon’s commitment to assisting Madagascar in restoring and strengthening its institutions.
President Randrianirina expressed his intention to draw lessons from Gabon’s experience in governance and institutional consolidation. The two leaders concluded their meeting by commending the strong and productive relationship between their nations.
This high-level diplomatic exchange follows a significant political shift in Madagascar in October 2025, when Colonel Michaël Randrianirina assumed leadership after widespread youth-led protests against former President Andry Rajoelina. The unrest was sparked by severe shortages of water and electricity across the country.
