Cocody, Côte d’Ivoire – A landmark report released by Endeavour Mining reveals the mining giant has injected 1.71 trillion FCFA into Côte d’Ivoire’s economy between 2021 and 2025. Of this total, 644 billion FCFA was directly contributed to state coffers through taxes, royalties, and dividends, demonstrating the transformative power of the gold sector in driving national development.
Taxes and local spending fuel public revenue
The report, titled Creating Tangible Value, highlights Endeavour’s deep integration into Côte d’Ivoire’s economic fabric. A breakdown of the 644 billion FCFA includes:
- 398 billion FCFA in corporate taxes
- 149 billion FCFA in royalties
- 97 billion FCFA in dividends
The company also invested 904 billion FCFA in procuring goods and services from national suppliers, reinforcing local industry. With over 1,350 employees—94% of whom are Ivorian—and partnerships with 4,390 contractors and 600 local vendors, Endeavour stands as the nation’s top gold producer and a key contributor to public revenue.
Community health initiatives reach over 120,000 people
Vice-President of Public Affairs and Country Director Laetitia Gadegbeku-Ouattara emphasized the company’s commitment to social responsibility. Through health caravans and partnerships with local authorities, Endeavour’s initiatives have:
- Provided free medical consultations and treatments to nearly 4,000 individuals
- Enabled 64 cataract surgeries at no cost
- Supported malaria control programs in Zouan-Hounien, where the Ity mine operates
Dr. Youssouf Koné, regional health director, noted that these efforts have significantly bolstered public health outcomes in mining-affected communities.
Education and youth empowerment take center stage
Endeavour’s investment in human capital development has benefited 4,000 children and youth through educational programs and 842 students via internships. Key initiatives include:
- « Élites de Demain » – Academic excellence support
- « Jeunes Filles en Scolarité » – Girls’ education advocacy
- « Pépites d’Or » – Vocational training for youth
These programs align with the company’s vision of fostering long-term socioeconomic progress.
Infrastructure development transforms communities
A total of 2.8 billion FCFA was allocated to community infrastructure, delivering tangible benefits such as:
- 71 clean water and sanitation projects
- Rehabilitation of 16 roads, serving over 360,000 people
- 10 rural electrification projects
- 1,000 driver’s licenses issued to promote youth employment
Economic empowerment targets women and youth
Over 3,000 individuals participated in 284 income-generating initiatives, funded with 487 million FCFA. A standout program, « N’Goto Yetehe », trained 63 young people in eight trades at the Lafigué site, equipping them with skills for future employment.
Environmental stewardship sets new standards
Endeavour’s sustainability commitments are reflected in its environmental achievements:
- Planting 158,000 trees and restoring 199 hectares of land
- Launching the « One Child, One Tree » program in partnership with schools
- Restoring 125 hectares of classified forests in collaboration with SODEFOR
- Eliminating 1.3 million single-use plastic bottles (a 99% reduction over three years) under the « Zero Plastic » strategy
The report was unveiled in Cocody, with attendance from local leaders, traditional authorities, youth representatives, and women’s groups from Ity and Lafigué’s host communities.
