Chad unveils friendship park with China: a green milestone in N’Djamena
The grand inauguration of the Tchad-China Friendship Park took place this Thursday, June 4, 2026, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Head of Government, Ambassador Allah Maye Halina.
This groundbreaking ecological and socio-ecological infrastructure was brought to life by the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development through the National Agency of the Great Green Wall, as part of Chad’s commitment to the Great Green Wall initiative.
Addressing the gathering, N’Djamena Mayor Senoussi Hassana Abdoulaye highlighted the symbolic significance of the project. «This park stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between Chad and China, a true reflection of successful and genuine cooperation», he remarked.
Hassan Bakhit Djamous, Minister of Environment, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development, emphasized the ecological and social dimensions of the initiative. «The Tchad-China Friendship Park is not merely a recreational space; it embodies our shared dedication to environmental protection and community well-being. Designed as a hub for gathering, leisure, awareness, and social cohesion, it embodies our vision of greener, more inclusive, and sustainable cities», he stated.
The Chinese Embassy in Chad echoed this sentiment. Ambassador Wang Xining described the park as «a tangible symbol of the deep bond between our two nations».
Closing the ceremony, Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina underscored the strong ties between N’Djamena and Beijing. «The construction of this park further solidifies the consistency of cooperation, friendship, and brotherhood between China and Chad», he affirmed.
Spanning 12,460 square meters, the Tchad-China Friendship Park was developed using an integrated approach that blends green infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainable water management, and recreational facilities. The project enhances urban greenery through landscaped areas and green zones, improving the local microclimate, reducing heat islands, promoting rainwater infiltration, and boosting urban biodiversity.
Energy-wise, the park operates entirely on a modern 30-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system, complemented by a 50-kilowatt-hour smart energy storage unit. This setup ensures self-sufficient power for the park’s facilities, including public lighting, administrative buildings, water pumping systems, and other site services.
The water system features a 92-meter-deep borehole with an estimated flow rate of 20 cubic meters per hour. It is paired with a water tower, distribution network, and a community water point to meet the needs of green space maintenance while serving nearby residents.
The park also boasts a variety of functional amenities, including a monument symbolizing the friendship between Chad and China, a multi-purpose pavilion, a children’s play area, a fitness zone, a prayer space, administrative offices, a service shop, public restrooms, internal pathways, parking spaces, and a solar-powered public lighting system covering the entire site.
