Chad suspends four popular yogurt brands over health violations
Chad’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an urgent directive to halt the distribution of four yogurt brands manufactured in N’Djamena after routine inspections uncovered severe sanitation and quality violations.
Signed by Dr. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, the country’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, the order follows a week-long quality assessment conducted by the Centre for Food Quality Control (CECOQDA) from June 1 to June 5. Inspectors targeted multiple yogurt production facilities across the capital, where samples revealed alarming deficiencies in microbiological stability, chemical composition, and adherence to basic hygiene protocols.
Findings highlighted repeated breaches in storage protocols, contamination risks, and failure to meet national food safety benchmarks. These lapses pose potential health hazards to consumers, prompting immediate regulatory action.
brands targeted in the nationwide recall
The following companies have been named in the suspension order:
- Tami Yogurt
- Alkhiza Yogurt
- Lazza Yogurt
- Gamar Yogurt
All batches of yogurt produced by these manufacturers must be withdrawn from shelves nationwide without delay. Distribution has been frozen until the companies demonstrate full compliance with CECOQDA standards.
The Ministry has urged these businesses to implement corrective measures promptly, including upgrading sanitation infrastructure and retraining staff on food safety regulations. Failure to comply may result in further penalties or permanent market exclusion.
In a broader move to enhance public health protections, authorities plan to expand these quality checks to all food production and retail facilities throughout Chad. Consumers are advised to verify product origins and report any suspicious items to local health offices.
