Global expertise meets local elections

Hosted by the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) framework, this technical workshop equips Beninese electoral officials with advanced tools to leverage AI for transparent, efficient and secure electoral processes.

Key learning areas in the AI election program

The curriculum covers critical aspects of AI deployment in elections:

  • Digital governance and electoral administration
  • Ethical considerations in deploying AI for voting systems
  • Human rights protections in automated decision-making
  • Cybersecurity measures for election infrastructure
  • Risk management for digital electoral processes
  • Legal frameworks governing AI use in electoral contexts

The training blends theoretical instruction with hands-on activities, including case studies, live demonstrations, interactive workshops and peer learning sessions with international electoral experts and officials from multiple countries.

A strategic push toward digital election infrastructure

For the CENA, this initiative reinforces its commitment to modernizing Benin’s election infrastructure. By adopting AI-driven solutions, the commission aims to enhance election transparency, reduce procedural bottlenecks and strengthen public trust in the electoral system.

The participation of Beninese officials in this program reflects the broader shift toward digital transformation in West African electoral governance, positioning Benin at the forefront of innovation in regional democratic practices.
