Adrien Haye honored for contributions to Côte d’Ivoire’s development
Adrien Haye, outgoing director of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Côte d’Ivoire, has been awarded the National Order of Ivory Coast in recognition of his work during his four-year mission in the country. The ceremony took place on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Budget in Abidjan, where Minister Adama Coulibaly presented the honor. The event was attended by French Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire Jean-Christophe Belliard and AFD staff members.
Honoring a commitment to Ivorian growth
On behalf of President Alassane Ouattara and Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, Minister Coulibaly praised Adrien Haye’s dedication to Côte d’Ivoire’s progress. He highlighted Haye’s hands-on involvement in identifying investment opportunities across key economic sectors since assuming leadership of the AFD in 2022.
« Throughout his tenure, Mr. Haye played a pivotal role in structuring financing solutions, designing projects, and ensuring their effective implementation alongside government partners, » the minister explained.
A legacy of financial mobilization
During his mandate, Adrien Haye oversaw the mobilization of 934 million euros (approximately 623 billion FCFA) in sovereign loans and resources from the Debt Reduction and Development Contract (C2D). This funding significantly bolstered the country’s macroeconomic stability.
In addition, five new sovereign loan agreements worth nearly 500 million euros (about 330 billion FCFA) were finalized, alongside agreements for the third phase of the C2D, aligning with the National Development Plan (PND) 2021–2025.
The minister emphasized that these efforts have cemented the AFD’s position as Côte d’Ivoire’s leading bilateral partner, with Haye’s leadership being instrumental in this achievement.
Gratitude and future ties
Deeply moved by the distinction—his first from an African state—Haye expressed his gratitude to Ivorian authorities. Reflecting on his tenure, he reaffirmed his enduring connection to the country.
« I am proud of what we have accomplished together, especially with your teams, Mr. Minister. I will continue to advocate passionately for Ivory Coast’s interests, » he stated.
The award celebrates four years of robust AFD-Ivorian collaboration, characterized by substantial investments in the nation’s economic and social development.
