Aboubakary Abdoulaye urges Cameroon government to combat sexual violence and femicides

At the opening of the second ordinary session of the Senate this Tuesday in Yaoundé, the president of the upper house, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, urged the Cameroonian government to step up the fight against sexual violence against children and femicides, which he described as increasingly alarming.

The Senate president and Lamido of Rey Bouba, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, made a solemn appeal to the government for stronger action against sexual violence targeting children and femicides in Cameroon.

Speaking at the opening of the second ordinary session of the Senate in Yaoundé, in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the president of the National Assembly, and several government members, he denounced acts that seriously harm the dignity, integrity, and lives of victims.

“Sexual abuse of women and children, as well as acts of femicide, must be fought with determination,” he declared, calling on authorities to put an end to such violence.

This stance comes amid a context of deep national emotion following the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The case, which sparked protests and a wave of outrage, reignites the debate on child protection and the need to strengthen measures to prevent and punish gender-based violence.
