Tchad partnership boosts media training for journalists
The Institut Supérieur du Journalisme et de la Communication du Tchad (ISJCT) and the Association des Médias en Ligne du Tchad (AMET) have formalized a strategic partnership in N’Djamena, marking a significant step toward elevating media standards in the country.
Strengthening ties between academia and media professionals
This collaboration establishes a structured framework to bridge the gap between academic training and real-world media practices. By fostering direct engagement between ISJCT students and AMET-affiliated newsrooms, the initiative ensures hands-on learning experiences that prepare future journalists for the demands of the profession.
Key components of the agreement
The partnership outlines several critical initiatives:
- Internships: Students from ISJCT will gain practical experience through placements in media outlets under AMET’s umbrella, accelerating their professional development.
- Continuous learning: Tailored training programs will be rolled out for journalists, editors, newsroom managers, and media executives, covering essential skills such as digital journalism, fact-checking, newsroom management, media economics, artificial intelligence applications, and ethical reporting.
- Institutional visibility: AMET will amplify ISJCT’s initiatives, ensuring broader outreach and engagement within the media ecosystem.
Voices from the ground
Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, a key figure behind the ISJCT project, emphasized the importance of collaboration: « A journalism school thrives on its connection to the industry. Media professionals are our partners in education, our training grounds, and the future employers of our graduates. »
Bello Bakary Mana, President of AMET, welcomed the partnership as a game-changer: « This alliance empowers news organizations to shape the next generation of journalists while providing professionals with opportunities to refine their expertise. It’s a clear path toward excellence. »
Backed by international support
The ISJCT initiative is supported by the Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie, with the first cohort of students set to begin their studies in October 2026. The institute aims to become a leading hub for journalism education, research, innovation, and professional development in Tchad and beyond.
The ISJCT, an initiative by the NGO MEDEV, is dedicated to providing specialized higher education in journalism, communication, and media management, addressing the growing need for skilled professionals in the sector.
