Tchad: GEMIA honors sixth batch of Children of Troops cadets
The Military Interarms Schools Group (GEMIA) honored its sixth graduating class of Children of Troops while recognizing outstanding cadets in a ceremony attended by top military and civilian leaders.
N’Djamena, June 4, 2026 — Under skies laden with meaning, the Military Interarms Schools Group (GEMIA) staged a landmark event today, marking both the commissioning of its sixth Children of Troops intake and the recognition of outstanding cadets. The solemn ceremony drew the highest-ranking military and civilian officials in the country, including General of Division Hisseine Abderamane Haggar and the Second Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Yangmmargue Beh Félix.
In an auditorium brimming with generals, officers, defense attachés from allied nations, the Mayor of N’Djamena, the Sultan of the First Arrondissement, proud parents, and alumni of the program, GEMIA’s commanding officer praised the resilience and transformation of the newest cohort.
This year’s class, comprising 76 cadets who joined on October 6, 2025, endured rigorous initiation rites designed to build bonds of brotherhood, camaraderie, and shared purpose. « Today, they shed their ‘new recruit’ status to officially become Children of Troops, » declared the general.
In his keynote address, he underscored the vision of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who has repeatedly stated that « Chad’s future is forged in its schools. » This philosophy is embodied by the Children of Troops program, whose guiding principle—« Learn to build better »—champions honor, discipline, and excellence.
Celebrating excellence and future leaders
The ceremony also recognized academic and athletic achievements, honoring the top performers of the year, including the school’s overall top cadet, most disciplined students, and best sports performers. The commanding officer commended the winners, urging them to sustain their commitment to excellence.
A call to elevate standards
Closing the event, GEMIA’s leader extended a challenge to partners and the Alumni Association of Former Children of Troops to help transform the institution into a national benchmark for military education. He concluded by wishing all personnel and cadets a restful break, while expressing gratitude to parents for their vital role in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
