Tchad cracks down on illegal slaughter network in N’Djamena
The capital city of Chad, N’Djamena, has witnessed the dismantling of an illicit slaughter network operating in the Machaga district of the 8th arrondissement. A coordinated operation involving the Ministry of Livestock, the Sanitary Police, and security forces uncovered more than 100 diseased cattle and 40 infected sheep, all intended for public consumption as alleged donations during the Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Swift action to curb health risks
Following the raid, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, inspected the site personally. He condemned the operation and issued urgent directives: deceased animals must be incinerated immediately, while those still salvageable are to receive veterinary care and proper nutrition. Enhanced monitoring has been mandated to safeguard public health.
Preventing future threats
This crackdown underscores the government’s commitment to preventing the spread of zoonotic diseases through unregulated meat distribution. Authorities have warned that similar illegal networks will face stringent penalties to ensure consumer safety.
