Senegal’s can 2025 appeal: the tas steps in

Three weeks have passed since the Confederation of African Football (CAF) made the pivotal decision to reallocate the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025, initially designated for Senegal. This move effectively granted hosting rights to Morocco, following reported incidents during the tournament’s final on January 18 in Rabat. Unsurprisingly, the Lions of Teranga vehemently contested this ruling.

This Monday, a significant development occurred as the Senegalese Football Federation finally received the official notification and the detailed reasoning behind CAF’s decision to revoke their hosting privilege. This formal communication marks a crucial step, enabling the federation to properly lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), as reported by digital sources from RMC.

tas to deliver swift judgment

The President of the CAF has already indicated his full deference to the ultimate judgment of the TAS. While the tribunal has not yet disclosed its precise deliberation schedule, a ruling is anticipated within the coming weeks. This decision will be conclusive, as neither of the involved parties – Senegal or Morocco – will possess the right to further appeal.

The TAS is exceptionally well-equipped to resolve such disputes, leveraging the expertise of specialized and impartial arbitrators,” recently stated Me Matthieu Reeb, the Director General of the TAS, as relayed by the aforementioned radio station. He added, “We fully understand that both teams and their supporters are eager for a swift final decision, and we are committed to ensuring the arbitration process proceeds as quickly as possible, while upholding the fundamental right of all parties to a fair hearing.
