Scherpen joins premier league
kjell scherpen is set to join the premier league, according to a report by algemeen dagblad this weekend. the belgian goalkeeper will be moving from union saint-gilloise to ipswich town, a club looking to promote themselves to the top tier of english football.
scherpen had an excellent season in belgium, helping his team win both the croky cup and the gant d’or for best goalkeeper.
despite being touted as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in europe, scherpen’s time at brighton & hove albion didn’t quite live up to expectations. he did, however, have a successful stint on loan at ajax before joining union saint-gilloise two years ago.
ipswich town has now made a ten million euro offer for the 26-year-old, with an additional three million euros available via bonuses.
scherpen will need to pass a medical before completing the move, but he is expected to sign a four-year contract with the tractors boys.
the deal also includes the possibility of ipswich town’s relegated teammate christian walton joining union saint-gilloise on loan.
