Crystal Palace signs Union Saint-Gilloise’s rising star for €24.5m

The Union Saint-Gilloise has officially waved goodbye to one of its brightest talents, Israeli winger Anan Khalaili, who has signed a five-year deal with Crystal Palace. The Premier League club confirmed the transfer on Saturday, with the Brussels-based side set to receive a total of €24.5 million, including performance-related bonuses.

Khalaili, 21, arrived at the Park Duden stadium in the summer of 2024 from Maccabi Haifa and quickly established himself as a key player. His contributions were pivotal in securing the club’s historic first league title in 90 years during the 2024-2025 season, followed by a triumph in the Belgian Cup the following year. Primarily deployed on the right flank, he demonstrated remarkable consistency, earning 16 caps for the Israeli national team in the process.

From Brussels to London: a career milestone

The young Israeli’s journey to Crystal Palace marks a significant leap in his career. After a failed move to Inter Milan earlier in the year—where he was ruled out due to medical tests—Khalaili has now secured his place in one of England’s most competitive leagues. Crystal Palace, fresh off their Conference League victory, represent a bold new challenge for the rising star.

European exploits and domestic success

Khalaili’s impact extended beyond domestic competitions. In their maiden Champions League campaign, he netted three goals, including crucial strikes against Marseille and Atalanta. His tally of eight goals in nearly 100 appearances for Union Saint-Gilloise underscored his growing reputation as a dynamic attacking force. The club also celebrated a victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Club Brugge, with Khalaili featuring prominently in their European exploits.

However, his involvement in the current season has seen a shift. He was omitted from the squad for the league opener against Westerlo, a 5-1 victory, and was also left out of the Champions League qualifier against Bodø/Glimt, which ended in a 3-3 draw.
