Raphaël Edzang to officially lead the RPG starting June 27
Raphaël Edzang, who was elected to lead the party on February 21, will formally take command of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) this Saturday, June 27. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the party’s headquarters in the Petit Paris district of Libreville, representing a new chapter for the political organization established by Paul Mba Abessole.
A new vision for the RPG
The upcoming investiture will serve as a platform for the new president to unveil his strategic vision, establish objectives for the coming years, and address pressing national issues. Under the leadership of the team succeeding Laurent Angué Mezui, the party has adopted a bold new slogan: “The RPG is change, and change is now.”
With this motto, the new leader aims to inject fresh energy into the movement. His approach focuses on integrity, socio-economic development, and building a closer connection with the needs and hopes of the Gabonese people. Furthermore, Raphaël Edzang intends to establish the RPG as a primary source of policy proposals and a vital participant in the country’s political life.
Profile of the new leader
An economist and senior civil servant, Raphaël Edzang was born on October 25, 1970, in Ellelem 1, located in the Woleu Ntem province. He has a distinguished professional background, notably serving at the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGMP) in the role of Director of Public Procurement.
His involvement with the RPG dates back to 2009, when he first served as a special advisor to the party president. He has remained dedicated to the organization ever since, standing as its candidate in the legislative elections of 2011, 2018, 2023, and the upcoming 2025 polls.
The RPG was founded in the late 1990s by Paul Mba Abessole, emerging from the split of the Rassemblement national des bucherons (RNB). While it began as a prominent opposition force, it later transitioned to join the presidential majority during the administration of President Omar Bongo Ondimba.
