Félix Tshisekedi praised as DRC’s finest post-independence leader by Michel Moto

Kinshasa — In a bold endorsement of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi’s leadership, prominent political figure Michel Moto Muhima has hailed him as the most outstanding head of state the Democratic Republic of the Congo has seen since gaining independence in 1960.

Speaking during a live television appearance on Saturday, Mr. Moto, a member of the National Assembly, delivered a sweeping assessment of President Tshisekedi’s seven-year tenure, declaring it superior to all previous administrations in every measurable category.

a record of transformative progress

The deputy’s remarks came during a Space live program hosted by journalist Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala, where he not only praised the president’s achievements but also linked his party’s support for constitutional reform to the need for enabling Tshisekedi to accomplish even more.

« Félix Antoine Tshisekedi is the best head of state our nation has known since independence, and I can prove it. In just six or seven years, the president’s record surpasses everything achieved in the decades prior. Every sector—economic, political, security, social, diplomatic, infrastructure—has seen progress that didn’t occur in the previous eighteen or thirty-two years. We must acknowledge the man’s era. »

Mr. Moto highlighted the president’s economic policies, noting a significant boost to local entrepreneurship as a cornerstone of his administration’s success.

« President Tshisekedi has given our economy a remarkable lift. Local business has flourished like never before. Of course, there’s still work to be done, and we must support him to go even further. With a stronger constitution, he can achieve even greater things. That’s why we say: let’s proceed. Let the people—our sovereign—decide through a referendum, and we will respect their choice. »

The deputy’s comments reflect growing political momentum behind the president’s push for constitutional reform, positioning Tshisekedi as a transformative leader capable of steering the nation toward long-term stability and prosperity.

constitutional reform at the heart of the debate

Michel Moto’s endorsement comes at a time when discussions about constitutional amendments are intensifying within political circles. Supporters argue that these changes are essential to modernize governance structures and enhance executive efficiency, while critics warn of potential risks to democratic stability.

The president has consistently framed the reform as a pathway to consolidating democratic gains and accelerating development initiatives across the country.

As the political landscape evolves, voices like Moto’s underscore the deep divisions—and convergences—within the national assembly regarding the future direction of the DRC’s governance.
