As soon as the final whistle blew, tensions escalated rapidly. On the Champs-Élysées, a group of young individuals targeted a bus shelter, prompting police intervention. Near Porte de Saint-Cloud, rioters launched fireworks at law enforcement officers, who responded with tear gas and made their first arrests. Later that evening, a cluster of shared bicycles was set ablaze, escalating into violent clashes between protesters and police along the iconic avenue.

The Paris ring road descended into disorder, blocked by scores of motorcycles and scooters. Some riders drove against traffic while pedestrians wandered freely among stationary vehicles. A 24-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a concrete barrier erected to halt the chaos. By early Sunday morning, a 17-year-old was stabbed multiple times and remains in critical condition.

57 law enforcement officers injured

On Sunday morning, the French Interior Minister confirmed that 57 police officers and gendarmes had sustained injuries nationwide. “We observed an alarming surge in projectile launches and mortar fire against security forces. The use of pyrotechnics against law enforcement reached unprecedented levels during these interventions,” stated the minister. Disturbing footage captured in Paris’ 8th arrondissement shows a man firing mortars in rapid succession.

Unrest and confrontations were reported in over a dozen French cities, including Grenoble. Looting and vandalism targeted local businesses. According to official figures, 780 individuals were detained across the country, with 457 still held in custody.
