Partnership between UNDP and Orange Côte d’Ivoire boosts youth digital inclusion
UNDP and Orange Côte d’Ivoire join forces to empower youth through digital inclusion
Abidjan — A landmark agreement was signed this week between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire, marking a significant step toward bridging the digital divide and fostering youth empowerment, particularly among young women, in Côte d’Ivoire.
The partnership, formalized on May 21, 2026, in Abidjan, reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable development and reducing inequality through innovative digital solutions. By leveraging technology as a catalyst for change, the two organizations aim to create tangible opportunities for the country’s young population.
Key initiatives under this collaboration include tailored digital skills training programs designed to equip youth with the expertise needed to thrive in an increasingly digital economy. Additionally, the partnership will support the growth of startups and entrepreneurial hubs, while extending digital access to underserved rural communities and vulnerable groups.
Central to these efforts is the Orange Digital Center, a flagship initiative that will serve as a hub for digital inclusion and mentorship for young entrepreneurs. The center will play a pivotal role in equipping the next generation with the tools and resources required to turn innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.
Blerta Cela, UNDP Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership: “This collaboration represents a major milestone in accelerating digital inclusion and entrepreneurship in Côte d’Ivoire. By combining the strengths of the private sector with international support, we are laying the groundwork for a fairer and more sustainable future.”Mamadou Bamba, CEO of Orange Côte d’Ivoire, echoed this vision, underscoring the company’s dedication to empowering youth and marginalized communities through concrete digital opportunities. “Our goal is to create pathways for young people to access the digital economy and unlock their potential,” he stated.
The partners also aim to elevate Côte d’Ivoire’s standing in the global digital economy by aligning their initiatives with the National Development Plan (NDP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that progress is both inclusive and sustainable.
