Niamey hosts crucial cip-UEMOA session, advancing west african integration

The 58th ordinary session of the Interparliamentary Committee of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (CIP-UEMOA) is currently underway in Niamey. Amidst the ongoing proceedings, Dr. Mamoudou Harouna Djingarey, President of Niger’s Conseil Consultatif de la Refondation (CCR), held a significant meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, with a high-level community parliamentary delegation.

2027 budget and strategic directions anchor key discussions

The CIP-UEMOA Bureau delegation was led by its interim president, Fononna Cheick Ahmed Coulibaly. Following this pivotal encounter, Mr. Coulibaly shed light on the primary topics addressed with Nigerien officials.

This 58th ordinary session, convening from July 13 to 18, 2026, in the Nigerien capital, holds a predominantly financial focus.

“We seized this opportunity to present the specifics of our work to the CCR president, concentrating on the review and adoption of the CIP-UEMOA’s 2027 budget, alongside the multi-year budgetary programming framework spanning 2027-2029,” stated Fononna Cheick Ahmed Coulibaly.

Reviewing 2026 first half and charting a course for enhanced integration

Parliamentarians also conducted a thorough review of activities undertaken during the first half of 2026. This assessment served as a foundation for planning priority actions and allocating necessary budgetary resources for the upcoming second half of the year. A key objective was to solicit guidance and strategic advice from the CCR president to accelerate the regional integration process within the UEMOA zone, a vital step for stability and progress in the Sahel region.

Niger reaffirms its unwavering commitment to regional solidarity

The interim president of CIP-UEMOA warmly commended Niger’s steadfast dedication. He emphasized that the exceptional welcome received underscores the excellent relationship between the Conseil Consultatif de la Refondation and the Interparliamentary Committee. This, he noted, powerfully demonstrates Niger’s resolve to foster dialogue and solidarity across the West African economic bloc.

Expressing mutual satisfaction with the successful and diligent work accomplished since the session’s inception, both institutions reaffirmed their collective ambition to consolidate efforts. This strengthened parliamentary cooperation is envisioned as a crucial instrument for enhancing the well-being of the populace and boosting the prosperity of all UEMOA member states.
