Morocco’s pivotal role in managing migration flows praised by expert

Morocco stands out as a regional leader in migration governance

A responsible regional player and trusted global partner

In a recent assessment from Washington, Moroccan-American scholar and expert Mohamed Daadaoui highlighted Morocco’s strategic importance in regulating and preventing irregular migration flows. The academic underscored how the Kingdom has emerged as a responsible regional force and an internationally credible partner, driven by a forward-looking migration policy that has earned global recognition.

Bilateral cooperation enhances migration control efforts

The expert praised the seamless coordination between Morocco and Spain, particularly in dismantling human trafficking networks and executing complex sea rescue and assistance operations. However, he cautioned against overburdening a single nation with the sole responsibility for managing transcontinental migration. « While Morocco can secure its borders, it cannot single-handedly resolve the broader challenges of irregular migration », he noted, emphasizing that shared responsibility is essential for sustainable solutions.

Europe urged to address root causes of migration

Daadaoui concluded by urging European policymakers to prioritize tackling the socio-economic drivers behind mass departures. He stressed that effective Mediterranean migration management hinges on deepened collaboration with Rabat, calling it a cornerstone of reliable partnership. « Success in migration governance relies heavily on close cooperation with Morocco as a trusted and dependable ally », he asserted.
