Khalifa Sall denounces Senegal’s governance at Taxawu Senegal party launch
Taxawu Sénégal, the political movement led by Khalifa Sall, officially transitioned into a structured political party during its founding congress held on Sunday in Dakar. The event took place at the Grand Théâtre, drawing an impressive turnout of party supporters dressed in party colors, waving banners, and chanting slogans in an atmosphere charged with political enthusiasm.
A show of political strength and new alliances
Several key political figures attended the congress, including Bamba Fall, Mayor of Médina, Alioune Ndoye, Mayor of Dakar-Plateau, and Aïssata Tall Sall. Other notable attendees included Oumar Sarr, Coordinator of the Front pour la République (FDR), and legal expert Me El Hadji Diouf, among other political leaders.
The organizing committee revealed that six political parties and multiple movements officially joined Taxawu Sénégal, signing the party’s founding charter during the event.
Khalifa Sall delivers a scathing critique of the current administration
In his closing speech, Khalifa Sall emphasized the historic significance of the congress, calling it a “foundational act” that solidifies Taxawu Sénégal’s transformation into a fully-fledged political party. He painted a grim picture of the nation’s state, declaring that Senegal is “at the 20th basement level,” a metaphorical expression he used to underscore what he views as the depth of the country’s challenges.
The former Mayor of Dakar did not hold back in his criticism of the ruling government, asserting: “They are stuck in the Baara Yegoo… but we have seen through their game.” This bold statement was widely interpreted as a direct challenge to the current administration’s policies and governance style.
Calls for unity and collaborative opposition
Khalifa Sall also urged opposition forces to unite in trust and solidarity, stressing the importance of working together to address the country’s political and social challenges. He reflected on the movement’s journey—marked by challenges, victories, and political realignments—while praising the dedication of members and allied forces who have contributed to its growth.
