Accompanied by the Chancellor of the Douala Archdiocese, the German diplomat also visited the historic cathedral, which commemorates 70 years since its consecration.
The German Embassy in Cameroon later shared insights from the meeting on social media, highlighting the constructive nature of their discussions.
Germany and Cameroon’s enduring religious and diplomatic ties
«During my visit to Douala, I had the honor of meeting His Excellency Archbishop Samuel Kleda,» Sedat wrote. «Our exchange focused on the vital role religious leaders play in fostering social cohesion, especially following the historic papal visit. This meeting also underscored the strong bonds uniting Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church. Germany remains actively engaged on the ground, listening and engaging in dialogue across the country.»
Christian Sedat serves as Germany’s Ambassador to Cameroon, based in Yaoundé. Appointed in July 2025, he brings extensive diplomatic experience from serving in central German foreign ministry departments and multiple international postings, including South Sudan.
Strengthening development and social projects
Prior to his Cameroon assignment, Sedat served as Germany’s Ambassador to Juba. His earlier diplomatic career included roles at the German Embassies in London and Washington, D.C., followed by service as Deputy Head of Mission in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
Since assuming his current position, Christian Sedat has actively promoted key areas of German-Cameroonian cooperation. His work emphasizes economic relations, development assistance, and cultural heritage preservation—particularly addressing colonial-era restitution issues.
