Gabon sets new tax authority performance targets under Oligui Nguema

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met with the newly appointed Director-General of Taxes, Edith Laure Mbiguidi Oyaya, accompanied by her leadership team and the Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and State Participations, Thierry Minko, on June 3, 2026.

During the meeting, the Director-General expressed her appreciation for the appointment and outlined her strategic priorities for revitalizing the tax administration. Her roadmap focuses on three core pillars: modernizing infrastructure, broadening the tax base, and optimizing revenue collection.

The administration also plans to enhance monitoring and taxpayer oversight mechanisms, guided by principles of rigor, integrity, and professionalism.

Digital transformation to combat tax evasion

The President underscored the critical role of the Directorate-General of Taxes (DGI) in driving Gabon’s economic transformation. He emphasized that domestic revenue mobilization is vital for funding infrastructure and improving public services.

A fully integrated digital system is a top priority, designed to streamline user procedures, enhance financial transaction transparency, and eliminate tax fraud.

Demanding excellence and measurable results

In closing, the Head of State called for a break from outdated practices, urging the new leadership to foster teamwork, discipline, and transparency. By prioritizing a performance-driven culture, the government expects the DGI to become a key driver in restoring public finances.
