French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrived in Rabat last night for a two-day official visit designed to strengthen the strategic partnership between France and Morocco amid growing diplomatic rapprochement.
He was greeted on arrival by Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, accompanied by a twelve-strong ministerial delegation from Paris. The visit follows a period of fluctuating relations between the two capitals, with both sides seeking to consolidate cooperation.
During his stay, Lecornu and Akhannouch will hold bilateral talks before jointly chairing the 15th High-Level French–Moroccan Meeting. This long-standing dialogue platform, one of the key forums for political and economic consultation between the two countries, has not convened since 2019.
Key topics on the agenda include boosting economic exchanges, deepening cross-border investments, stepping up security and defense collaboration, and advancing energy, infrastructure and ecological transition initiatives.
French and Moroccan authorities expect around fifteen new agreements to be signed during the visit.
These will cover civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electricity interconnection, security cooperation and several cultural initiatives.
In the cultural sphere, both sides are expected to formalize a strategic partnership between the Institut du monde arabe in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture, aimed at reinforcing artistic, heritage and academic exchanges.
