Free public transport in Tiassalé from 2026

Mayor Antoine Assalé Tiémoko of Tiassalé, a bustling city located roughly 120 kilometers from Abidjan, has declared that municipal transportation will be free for residents on weekends starting in late 2026. The initiative will begin with a pilot phase to assess its impact and feasibility before full implementation.

The decision reflects a broader strategy to redistribute municipal resources more equitably. Since 2019, Tiassalé’s own revenue—primarily derived from local taxes—has surged from 24 million West African CFA francs to 91 million in 2025, with projections reaching 100 million by 2026. This financial growth has enabled the municipality to invest in services that directly benefit residents.

The announcement was made during the 11th accountability day event held on May 22, 2026, at Tiassalé’s wedding hall. Mayor Assalé Tiémoko, who also serves as the president of the political movement ‘Aujourd’hui et Demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI),

Strengthening public services through financial growth

Tiassalé’s municipal budget expansion demonstrates how strategic local governance can transform community services. The mayor emphasized that the decision to waive weekend transport fees is just one example of how increased revenue is being channeled back into the community. With steady financial progress, the municipality is better positioned to implement such citizen-focused initiatives.

Accountability and community engagement

The 11th accountability day served as a platform for Mayor Assalé Tiémoko to outline the municipality’s achievements and future plans. The event highlighted the administration’s commitment to transparency by inviting residents to engage directly with local leadership and discuss priorities for development.
