Financial aid to Mali continues despite hardships, says Villefranche-de-Rouergue association

The 16th general assembly of the association supporting the village of Forgho in northern Mali was held recently.
At the start of the meeting, president Marie-Jo Mennelet shared concerning news from Mali: “I don’t have very good news from the country, which is experiencing even tougher days than before.” Jihadist attacks, shortages, water and power cuts, rising prices, and extreme heat are making daily life exceedingly difficult for the population.
Despite this challenging environment, the association maintains strong ties with its friends in Forgho and Bamako and continues to respond to their needs with loyalty and solidarity. In her activity report, Marie-Jo Mennelet noted that the schools in Forgho and Kotchekaraï remain open, unlike many institutions in the north and center of the country. Although no new sponsorships were initiated this year, ongoing sponsorships continue thanks to the generosity of members and donors.
The aid provided has funded school supplies for the start of the academic year, the canteen, DEF exams, as well as medicines, seeds, and various works in schools and villages.
While few events could be organized by the association this year, it nevertheless benefited from donations collected during concerts and theatrical performances.
The financial report remains positive, with income primarily from donations, memberships, and sponsorships. Expenditures were mainly allocated to school aid, medicines, seeds, the Bamako orphanage, as well as various ad hoc support to families and teachers.
After the unanimous adoption of both reports and the renewal of board members, the general assembly concluded with the traditional friendly gathering over a glass of friendship and convivial exchanges.
