Félix-antoine tshisekedi’s working visit to Gabon strengthens bilateral ties
President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) arrived in Libreville on Friday for a state visit focused on deepening ties with Gabon. The visit, described as both diplomatic and friendly, was marked by warm welcomes and high-level engagements.
Upon landing, crowds gathered to greet the Congolese leader, creating a lively atmosphere at the airport. This enthusiastic reception set the tone for the visit, underscoring the strong bonds between the two nations.
The visit included a solemn ceremony at the newly renovated Léon Mba Memorial, where President Tshisekedi paid tribute to Gabon’s first president and independence hero. He laid a wreath, reviewed a biographical tribute, and observed a moment of silence to honor Léon Mba’s legacy. The gesture was part of a broader recognition of leaders who shaped Africa’s freedom movement.
Following the tribute, President Tshisekedi signed the guestbook, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening Gabon-DRC relations. While the presidency did not disclose the full agenda of bilateral discussions, it confirmed that high-level talks on economic and diplomatic cooperation were underway.
The next day, the Congolese leader met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the presidential palace, continuing the momentum of the visit.
As members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Gabon and the DRC have maintained steady diplomatic exchanges. This visit further solidifies their partnership, reflecting a shared vision for regional stability and growth.
