Dakar court postpones Sonko-Niang property dispute case to july 2026

The Dakar Court has adjourned the highly publicized legal battle between Mame Mbaye Niang and Ousmane Sonko until July 22, 2026. The delay was granted at the request of Sonko’s legal team, who sought additional time to prepare responses to the opposing party’s submissions.

The dispute centers on a contentious property transaction involving a villa in the Keur Gorgui district. Mame Mbaye Niang had initially secured a court ruling ordering Sonko to pay 200 million CFA francs in damages. However, Niang’s efforts to enforce the judgment were thwarted when the property’s lease was allegedly transferred to Sonko’s family, rendering it immune to seizure.

Niang’s legal representatives argue that this transfer was a deliberate attempt to shield assets from enforcement proceedings. They contend that Sonko’s actions were calculated to avoid settling the financial penalty imposed by the court. The villa, located on a 264m² plot in Keur Gorgui, bears the lot number R/17 and was at the heart of the initial dispute.

The case, which was first scheduled for June 10, has now been pushed back further to accommodate the defense’s preparation phase. Niang’s legal team used the earlier postponement to strengthen their arguments against Sonko’s counterclaims.
