Chad settles debts to CEEAC, reaffirms regional commitment

On Monday, July 13, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno of Chad met with a high-level delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the organization’s current Chair of the Council of Ministers.

The meeting highlighted the newly appointed leadership of the CEEAC Commission, including Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice-President.

A key outcome of the discussion was Chad’s commitment to clearing its financial obligations to the regional body. The Chadian Head of State instructed government officials to settle all outstanding contributions owed to the CEEAC and ensure timely payment of future dues. A statement from the presidency emphasized this move as a demonstration of Chad’s dedication to the organization’s operational success.

President Mahamat underscored Chad’s unwavering support for the CEEAC, praising the organization’s role in stabilizing transitions in both Chad and Gabon, which contributed to the restoration of constitutional order. He further assured CEEAC officials of Chad’s continued political, economic, and financial backing.

CEEAC representatives outlined their strategic priorities and the challenges facing the community, including accelerating economic integration in Central Africa. Their goals include boosting intra-regional trade, enhancing transport infrastructure, facilitating the free movement of people and goods, and strengthening the free trade zone.

Rosario Mbasogo Kung welcomed Chad’s assurances and stressed that the CEEAC’s success hinges on the collective efforts of its member states to transform Central Africa into a region of peace, unity, prosperity, and solidarity.
