Exams postponed after papers leaked on social media

The Ministry of Secondary Education announced the postponement of the remaining written GCE exams scheduled for June 8-18, 2026, following the widespread circulation of confidential exam papers on social platforms. The decision was made by Minister Nalova Lyonga on June 6, with new dates set for June 22 to July 2, 2026. Practical exams for technical and vocational programs will proceed as planned.

Fraud investigation launched

An official investigation has been launched to identify those responsible for the security breach. Digital evidence has been collected and handed over to authorities to trace the source of the leak. Meanwhile, the Ministry has urged all 208,761 candidates to remain calm and use the additional time for focused revisions.

A fake document circulating online had suggested a reversal of the decision, but authorities confirmed the postponement remains in effect. Candidates are advised to report to their exam centers as scheduled on Monday.

Ongoing exam fraud challenges

This incident highlights the persistent issue of exam paper leaks in Cameroon, particularly on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, where confidential materials often appear hours before scheduled tests. Such breaches frequently force education authorities to reschedule exams to ensure fairness.

Investigations point to vulnerabilities in the exam logistics chain, from paper selection to distribution. In some cases, teachers and administrative staff have been implicated in facilitating leaks. To combat fraud, authorities have strengthened security measures, including the introduction of QR codes and digitization of exam processes.
