Burkina Faso pm meets insurance brokers ahead of major regional assembly in Ouagadougou

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo received a delegation from the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Brokers (FIAC) on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The delegation, led by interim President Vakaramoko Samaké, came to brief the head of government on the stakes of the federation’s 16th Annual General Assembly, scheduled for June 10–13, 2026, in Ouagadougou.

Held under the theme “The Role of Insurance Brokerage in Expanding Access and Improving Penetration Rates”, this major event aims to position brokers as key actors in financial inclusion.

The regional gathering will bring together nearly 200 insurance brokers from the 14 member countries of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA), plus Guinea Conakry and Ghana. Following the audience, the interim FIAC president praised the prime minister’s personal commitment to sponsoring the event.

Vakaramoko Samaké

We showed him the importance of our profession. Today, insurance brokers contribute to the economic development of our countries and to job creation. This general assembly marks the beginning of the qualitative change we want to make. The theme of financial inclusion is a new starting point for brokers to support our populations,” he explained.

For his part, the prime minister welcomed the choice of the Burkinabe capital to host this 16th edition. He sees it as “a mark of fraternity” toward the country.

We have chosen a path that brings us a lot of demonization and negative stereotypes. We remain serene because the country is progressing in all areas, as macroeconomic indicators show,” said the prime minister.

He then stressed the relevance of the theme, which is at the heart of the government’s agenda. “Your role is important. Today, insurance is essential in all sectors. In rural areas, we now talk about climate insurance. This proves that risks are expanding and that a minimum coverage is needed for our populations,” he emphasized.

Reaffirming the government’s determination to make insurance brokerage a tool for resilience, the prime minister concluded: “Be assured of our willingness to work alongside you and to take into account the recommendations from your work. I urge you to stay united and keep pace with the changes of our time.”

With this audience, the government confirms its intention to make the sector a key player in the refoundation and economic resilience of Burkina Faso.
