UK and Morocco target doubled trade through 2030 world cup projects
Trade between the United Kingdom and Morocco is set to soar as both nations leverage upcoming mega-projects, including preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, to double bilateral commerce and deepen economic ties. This bold initiative was announced during a high-level meeting in Rabat, where senior officials from both governments outlined a shared vision for accelerated investment and expanded market access.
The United Kingdom’s Minister of State for International Trade, Chris Bryant, led a high-powered delegation to Morocco for bilateral discussions, emphasizing the transformative potential of the 2030 World Cup. He highlighted how the tournament could serve as a catalyst for infrastructure upgrades, economic modernization, and long-term legacy projects that benefit future generations. ‘The World Cup is more than a sporting event—it’s a strategic opportunity to strengthen our economic partnership and unlock new trade possibilities,’ Bryant noted.
In response, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, underscored the broader developmental impact of the 2030 World Cup beyond the host cities. He revealed that the event is part of a sweeping eight-year national strategy aimed at enhancing transport networks, healthcare facilities, and public utilities nationwide. ‘This is not just about hosting a global tournament—it’s about positioning Morocco as a hub for innovation, investment, and sustainable growth,’ Mezzour stated.
During the two-day forum held in Rabat and Casablanca, British businesses from key sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, and professional services engaged with Moroccan counterparts. The event served as a platform to explore joint ventures, technology transfer, and co-investment opportunities, with both sides expressing commitment to moving beyond traditional trade models toward strategic, high-impact partnerships.
