Post-match tensions in Paris: clashes and arrests follow psg-arsenal final

PSG-Arsenal : mouvements de foule, interpellations, gaz lacrymogènes… La situation se tend à Paris après la finale

Initial arrests were made this Saturday in Paris following the Champions League final, both near the Porte de Saint-Cloud stadium perimeter and along the Champs-Élysées.

The situation began to escalate across Paris this Saturday late afternoon, coinciding with the PSG-Arsenal Champions League final. Minister of the Interior Laurent Nuñez reported approximately ten arrests in the vicinity of the Parc des Princes, where the match was being broadcast.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, the Minister was present on the Champs-Élysées, where he was briefed on the comprehensive security arrangements implemented by the police prefecture.

Incidents reported on the Champs-Élysées, at Châtelet, and near the stadium

The upper section of the Champs-Élysées was cordoned off. A number of disappointed PSG supporters gathered further down the avenue, watching the match on their mobile phones. Subsequently, additional arrests occurred on the iconic avenue itself, where a bus shelter was vandalized, and initial skirmishes between law enforcement and agitators were observed.

Scattered reports of mortar fire emerged, notably around Avenue Kléber in the 16th arrondissement. In the 18th arrondissement, groups of individuals, some wearing balaclavas and carrying iron bars, were noted moving through the area, though no acts of aggression had occurred at that point.

During the second half of the match, crowd disturbances were reported near Châtelet and in the vicinity of the Parc des Princes. In both instances, police deployed tear gas to disperse the gatherings.

Ten individuals in police custody by 7:30 PM

By 7:30 PM, police had conducted 1579 checks, resulting in 64 fines. A total of twenty individuals were apprehended, with ten subsequently placed in police custody. Authorities also confirmed the seizure of 24 flares and two mortars, along with damage to a bus shelter on Avenue de la Boétie, close to the Champs-Élysées.

Projectiles were also directed at law enforcement personnel near the avenue, where an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people had congregated during the match.

At the Parc des Princes, approximately 150 individuals attempted to breach an entrance gate to the stadium. However, a swift police maneuver successfully repelled them, restoring calm within moments.
