Nantes loses first league 2 match behind closed doors after disciplinary sanctions

Nantes begins Ligue 2 campaign with closed-door match following sanctions

The FC Nantes will play their opening home fixture in Ligue 2 without spectators after disciplinary action was confirmed.

The Ligue de football professionnel’s disciplinary commission has officially ratified the 0-0 scoreline between FC Nantes and Toulouse following the match’s abandonment in the final round of Ligue 1 action. The decision, announced on May 27, came as no surprise given the circumstances surrounding the match’s premature conclusion.

In their official statement, the LFP confirmed: “After reviewing the case file, the commission has definitively ratified the score recorded at the moment of definitive abandonment (0-0). Furthermore, the commission has imposed the following sanctions: one closed-door match at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by the closure of the Loire stand for two additional fixtures.”

The match on May 17 was halted when Nantes supporters invaded the pitch in the Loire stand, throwing smoke bombs and forcing the police to intervene. Referee Stéphanie Frappart ultimately called off the match “on prefectural order for safety reasons,” marking the end of Nantes’ top-flight campaign. As a result, the Canaries will kick off their Ligue 2 season without supporters present, with the Loire stand remaining inaccessible for two more matches.
