Morocco and spain strengthen security ties with high-level decorations in Rabat
In Rabat, a high-profile delegation from Spain’s Civil Guard, led by Division General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, head of the Intelligence Directorate, was received on Thursday by Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director-General of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance.
This official visit underscores the deepening security collaboration between Moroccan and Spanish authorities—a partnership widely regarded as a benchmark in counterterrorism and transnational crime prevention.
As part of the visit, several senior officials from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) were awarded prestigious Spanish honors. These distinctions, issued by Spain’s Interior Minister, recognize their pivotal role in enhancing operational cooperation and technical assistance between the two nations.
The ceremony highlighted these recognitions as a testament to the robust strategic alliance between Morocco and Spain, reflecting Madrid’s appreciation for the professionalism and effectiveness of Moroccan security leaders in addressing shared threats.
During the event, General Peláez Piñeiro emphasized the indispensable role of Morocco as a key partner in the fight against terrorism and organized crime. He commended the advanced bilateral security cooperation, which has become a cornerstone in tackling evolving regional and global security challenges.
These honors follow the awarding of Spain’s highest distinction, the Grand Cross of Civil Guard Merit, to Abdellatif Hammouchi in November 2025. Earlier, in 2014, he received the Cross of Police Merit with Red Badge, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the exemplary security partnership between Morocco and Spain.
