Mali sets bounty on key terror leaders in Sahel security push

Mali targets top terror figures with new bounty program

In a decisive move to combat terrorism and safeguard national stability, the Government of Mali has declared financial bounties on seven high-profile terrorist leaders. The rewards range from 500 million to 2 billion West African CFA francs, depending on the individual’s threat level and operational influence.

The Ministry of Security issued a formal statement emphasizing the importance of public cooperation: « Any credible information leading to the arrest or neutralization of these designated individuals will be rewarded, » the announcement stated. The government underscores that these rewards are part of a broader strategy to dismantle terror networks operating within Mali’s borders.

Among the most wanted are Iyad Ag Ghali, leader of one of the region’s most notorious insurgent groups, with a bounty set at 2 billion CFA francs. Also targeted are Hamadoun Hassan Sankaré (known as Amadou Kouffa), accused of orchestrating attacks in central Mali, and Abdoulaye Mahamadou Bekaye Diallo (alias Doulé Bib de Nampala), linked to high-profile assaults in the Nampala area. Each carries a 1.5 billion CFA franc reward. Another key figure, Alghabass Ag Intallah, faces a 1 billion CFA franc bounty for his alleged role in planning and executing terror operations.

The authorities stress that these individuals remain actively sought by security forces for their suspected involvement in attacks that have claimed lives and destabilized communities across Mali. They urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to defense and security personnel.

This initiative reflects Mali’s intensified efforts to restore peace and security in a region grappling with persistent insurgent violence. By incentivizing public participation, the government aims to weaken terror networks and accelerate the capture of their most dangerous operatives.
