Libreville’s mayor Eugène Mba reviews urban transformation plans with Gabon’s president

The Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, welcomed Libreville’s mayor, Eugène Mba, yesterday at the Palais Rénovation. This second meeting since their initial encounter on April 28th falls under the framework of ongoing oversight of local governance, performance evaluation of municipal executives, and strengthening cooperation between the central government and local administrations.

Eugène Mba presented a comprehensive progress report on the initiatives assigned to him since assuming office on April 24th. He also outlined the newly restructured municipal administration, detailing key changes in leadership. The discussions further explored long-term development projects aimed at reshaping Libreville: reorganizing urban spaces, building modern parking facilities, expanding green and botanical zones, combating unauthorized public land occupation, and enhancing neighborhood infrastructure. The digital transformation of municipal services was also highlighted during the talks.

President Oligui Nguema emphasized the critical need to accelerate urban cleanliness, stressing that public hygiene remains a top priority. He specifically called for improved household waste collection systems to meet this goal.

Reaffirming his commitment to a modern and appealing Gabon, the president underscored that Libreville, as the nation’s showcase, must set an international standard in urban planning, local governance, and public service excellence. He urged Eugène Mba to uphold strict discipline, embrace innovative solutions, and deliver results efficiently in executing the outlined projects.
