Jihadist attack in Niger: dozens of civilians killed in Tillabéri region
A fresh wave of jihadist violence in Niger has left a community in mourning following a brutal assault on innocent people. On January 18, militants from the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) carried out the execution of 31 individuals, including men and children, in the village of Bossiye. This settlement is located within the Tillabéri region in the western part of the country.
Reports obtained through interviews conducted by Human Rights Watch indicate that the attack involved roughly one hundred insurgents. These fighters arrived on motorcycles around noon, marking another dark chapter for security Sahel efforts and West Africa Sahel news. This tragedy highlights the ongoing challenges facing the political Sahel landscape and the urgent humanitarian Sahel needs of vulnerable populations.
