Niamey, July 27, 2026 – High-level consultations among leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) continue as the region marks three years since the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) assumed power in Niger. Today, Niger’s Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, General Mohamed Toumba, welcomed Bassolma Bazié, President of Burkina Faso’s National Commission for the AES Confederation, for a strategic meeting.
During his official visit to Niger to participate in commemorative events, the Burkinabè official paid a courtesy call at the Ministry of Interior. The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss pressing regional challenges confronting AES member states.
Advancing security cooperation within the AES framework
During the discussions, Bassolma Bazié commended Niger’s proactive measures in strengthening regional security. He highlighted the country’s efforts to protect civilians and enhance stability, both domestically and across the confederation’s shared borders.
The talks underscored the shared commitment of AES member states to deepen collaboration in addressing common threats. Security remains a cornerstone of the confederation’s agenda, with leaders emphasizing the need for unified strategies to counter evolving regional risks.
